Serra da Leba Pass The Angola Expedition: Coast, Canyons & Coffee Plantations
Embark on an epic 20-day overland journey through Angola, one of Africa’s last true frontiers for adventure motorcycling.
Starting and ending in the vibrant capital of Luanda, this 4,000-kilometre loop takes you deeper into the heart of Southwestern Africa than standard routes ever dare. The riding is diverse and demanding. You will navigate everything from fast coastal tarmac to remote dirt tracks, mountain passes, and severely potholed secondary roads that require sharp focus and intermediate off-road skill.
This is not a luxury holiday; it is a raw, unsupported-feeling expedition backed by the safety of our full support vehicle setup. Accommodation leans heavily into the wild: you will camp on remote Atlantic beaches, pitch tents under dark skies, and stay in local African hotels that offer functional shelter rather than Western amenities. In return, you get completely untamed landscapes, deep history, and empty roads.

Route
Our route strikes north from Luanda to the historical kingdom of M'banza Kongo, before cutting inland to the spectacular Kalandula Falls and the towering rock monoliths of Pedras Negras. We track south through the historic, high-altitude coffee plantations of the central highlands down to the coastal port of Lobito.
From there, we tackle the dramatic descent of the Serra da Leba pass to reach Namibe, where the desert meets the sea. After pushing inland to peer over the edge of the world at the Tundavala Gap, we track back up the Atlantic coastline for rugged beach camping on our way north. Our final major stop brings us to Quicama National Park, where we park the bikes to explore its massive baobab forests and savannah by 4x4, before returning to Luanda.
